Ali Forney Center: Luscious

The bricks thrown at Stonewall represent a revolutionary moment in our history in which black and brown trans and queer women were at the forefront. While Ali Forney was not at the Stonewall Riots, they dedicated their life to our community, and has saved the lives of countless queer youth.

This project aimed to highlight the Ali Forney Center hosting their first ever Luscious Brunch, celebrating and centering the women, trans, and non-binary members of our community. Named after Ali Forney’s gender expansive persona, Luscious, and led by a team of committed community members, the Luscious Brunch is working to raise critical resources for at-risk youth. Their goal for the gala is to expand their life skills and learning opportunities for the women, trans, and non-binary youth of the Ali Forney Center who are experiencing homelessness and family rejection because of their LGBTQ+ identity.

The intention of this project is to honor the trans ancestors that have come before the current generation. Those that have paved a way, put their life on the line, and chartered a new world for us all to live in. "The First Brick" is an homage to life and revolution. It is a gift of fine art to folks that are not only a part of the community, but also helping to reshape what it looks like to be a trans and queer person in today's world.
